INFO
Kaitian Cong (b.2001 Beijing) is a London-based artist, maker, designer who’s work grounded in material aesthetic and use a range of materials and processes, including textiles, publication and raw materials, currently graduated from Royal College of Arts and holds a BA textiles at Central Saint Martins.
Kaitian’s practice focuses on transformation, which she views as a way of perceiving and responding to the world. In her practice, the relationship between objects and images serves both a revealing and concealing function. Her works reveal by concealing and conceal by revealing. In this process, the definition of an object becomes flexible, appearing in space only through color and geometric imagery. Within this space, objects and images can be deconstructed, reassembled, and reconstructed.
Kaitian describes her act of transformation as follows: “I enter that moment, whether it is two-dimensional or three-dimensional. Shapes, textures, and colors condense my perception; they are marks and signals, but also symbols of new beginnings, moments that transcend the present. I enjoy perceiving the world in this way—not just from a visual or physical perspective, but as an existence that can transcend these dimensions, transforming into possibilities.” From making three-dimensional objects from two dimensions. Her practice explores peoples ability of perception and curiosity. In an age where people are overwhelmed by mounts of information, many are gradually losing these abilities. She aims to highlighting and revealing unexpected meanings to shift our perspective to new ways of seeing, understanding and perceiving.
